Thanks. Most of the auxillary comments today from the R&F had nothing to do with the study material - usual "appreciate the act of deliverance by attending meetings, serivice, study...etc" Nobody really studies these days. WTSC was in autopilot mode....you could answer "Satan saved Isaac as he wanted to screw around with his sex drive till he was 40 when he got married" and the WTSC would say "good point" or "good observation","yes, exactly"....going through the motions.

Castrati....
by creativhoney inhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=slhhg8si6ds.
the castrati play a fascinating role in the history of singing.
to discover the origin of this practice we need to look at the church of rome's interpretation of two biblical passages:.

Creativhoney: Are you reading Dan Brown's "The Lost Symbol" - did that twig you to wondering about castrati?

"Absolute belief and absolute disbelief require no thought (thinking) at all" In between are those termed more "noble minded" - willing to question, explore, mine and harvest their God given intellect to better themselves first so they can better others next. The scriptures provide (but not exclusively) such a mileu for betterment. In is unconscionable on any organization's part, especially one that espouses open-mindedness to act to the contrary. A people kept in fear and ignorance are more easily controlled, manipulated and exploited.

Seat wars and Nazi attendents
by highdose inmemories of assemblys gone by.... does anyone remember crystal place assemblies?
the jubliee stand was the stand to be in, because it got the shade in the afternoon, wereas all the other stands would be frying.
i rember there was a mad insane dash for those seats everyday.

I am always amazed that everyone rushes for the front/best seats at a SAD/CA/DC but never at a meeting at the hall. The opposite occurs - everyone rushes for the back seats. Go figure?

I recall many times being encouraged as an elder to use some of these inane illustrations by PO/CO/DO - I chose my own and often avoided them altogether if they simply made no sens or prduced quizical looks. Does anyone stop to think about these irrelevant illustrations that pop up? This is an interesting ilustration, which absoultely begs a question: The bees on the flowers - what were they doing? Answer: They were working for the benefit of the hive. Application: Don't work alone in FS - someone will whup your ass.

Dumbest Awake Title Ever?
by metatron ini hold in my hand the nov. awake magazine entitled "technology - blessing or curse?"..
now, i understand the need for balance and moderation in using technology, as the magazine says - but could they come up with a more intelligent sounding title?
it makes the question sound as if abandoning technology might be a solution, a considered choice, a real possibility.

Anyone here have Bi-Polar II?
by daniel-p ini wanted to see if there were some people on here with this disorder, and what kind of symptoms you have/had, so any input is welcome.. i have some symptoms that, from what i have read, sound very similar, but i have never been one to go seeking out diagnoses for myself and am very wary of the pitfalls associated with that.. in any case, i'd be interested to hear from others about this.....

I know quite a few in our hall who are "Bi-Polar-Rollers" - the fakers who have to leave after the public talk, sit out in the hallway with a heard of hugging sisters, they leave just before TMS and miss many meetings. Add to that they have to eat like pigs in FS (yes, I have had to stop at McD for some bloated faker to gorge on a couple of Big Macs because her "BP was acting up" stupid me thought it meant blood pressure) They get pissed off at you for no reason and blame their Bi-Polar.
Sadly, those who genuinely suffer from it never broadcast the fact and quitely go about their lives - of the 3 - 4 we have there is one geniuine Bi-Polar and this sister is a gem - we would help her out in a heart beat.

I tend towards the comment that they are "....gently back peddling on some issues and will become more mainstream - they have to in order to survive". I am incresingly finding that the study articles are often 180deg from each other. Ones like this that present a better view point (but not perfect) where clearly much of the research was/can be found on the Internet along with additional tidbits such as Heath, who is not mentioned, but influenced Dunn. This is opposite to other areticles that do the "you better do this or else" rules & regulations without scriptural support. I personally enjoyed this one because it does allow for exegeses thought.

Is it alowed to watch / read Harry Potter movies (books) in your area?....
by Albert Einstein inis it alowed to watch / read harry potter movies (books) in your area?.
in my country (eastern europe) it is viewed mostly as "unexemplary" , although many kids have harry potter dvds at home, but nobody talks about it .... at circuit assembly one speaker warned, that "some might be tempted to watch a movie, with a little witch .... (of course it is very dangerous and we must stay away!!!)".
when i started my departure several months ago, i made sure my son has all movies on dvd and i openly talk about it with dubs who visit our home - how nice the movies are - ... nobody so far dared to react.... albert .

Albert: Much the same as elswwhere - a "no-no". However, when I served as an elder I 1) refused parts where it it would set rules on such - as in the "local needs" 2) nevere give a reply to those who asked if it was okay. Generally, it is up to you and your conscience. There are movies I have no interest in at all that deal with comparative subject matter. Harry Potter is just a more modern version of common storylines of good vs eveil and the truimph of love. the value of friendship that trancends physicall attraction. With that in mind where can one draw a line? Better chuck out the Snow White & 7 dwarfs, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, etc. So if you cannot draw a line, don't let anyone draw it for you. Its you choice.

Good Watchtower Study today
by slimboyfat ini am glad we went to the meeting this morning.
it was about how jehovah's witnesses have always taught the paradise earth for most of obedient mankind.
it mentioned how early christian leaders such as origen and augustine introduced neo-platonic thought into early christianity and allowed ideas about an immortal soul to crowd out what the bible says about the earth.

Just getting ready for my meeting. Just finished studying the article and yes, a very balanced study as some commented. Dunn, Storrs and others had a view long before Russell (Russel wrote for Storrs till 1879). Also, same for Heath who wriote "Future Human Kingdom of Christ" (1852). I would like to see more studies like these than stupid rule-making articles that are unsupported scriptually. It is as if some studies are written by some who are 108deg from other article writers. Do any others get that feeling when reading the study articles?
